The Artist: Maddie Spoto

I am an artist, and a designer, who graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 2009 with a BA in Studio Art, emphasis in Art History. At CSULB I was able to develop my passion for art, and more specifically, art history and metalsmithing. I originally went for interior and graphic design, but found that metalsmithing and art history were so much more me! Graphic design is how I make a living and has catapulted me into the career world I now find myself in.  Jewelry and metalsmithing is something that I just love to do, to get my hands dirty, to build and create something simply beautiful.  This is why I started Folk Dreams.

A few things about me:
I am happily married to my best friend, Jimi, living in sunny Southern California.
I paddle outrigger canoe.
I love to travel, adventure, camp and hike.
I love my family, animals, the ocean, rootbeer, anything cinnamon, nature, and my hair.
All for grass roots, going green, earth friendly, homesteading, DIY, and inspiration. 

 The Dream: Folk Dreams

In 2012, I created Folk Dreams to share my jewelry with the world!  It became clear to me that this is something I really wanted to do when I attended an indie business and craft conference called Craftcation. It changed everything for me and gave me the courage to start something I have wanted to start for the past 4 or 5 years.

Durable, everyday copper and silver jewelry, handmade my Santa Ana, Ca studio. While beautiful in its simplicity, my jewelry evokes adventure and inspiration to follow dreams and live freely. With texture, oxidization and organic colors Maddie translates nature into wearable pieces of art for taking the road less traveled.  Check out my Etsy Shop for my latest designs.
