The Drive
If you want to take the scenic route from Kailua to the North Shore, I suggest taking the 83 all the way. The coastline is gorgeous, rural, and you can make a few stops along the way before heading into Haleiwa for some shopping.
Pit Stops
Laie
A cute little town on the east side of the island.
Turtle Bay Resort
A gorgeous resort sitting on the north-east tip of the island.
Ted's Bakery

Just off of Sunset Beach and best known for their Haupia Pie, it is a must stop for breakfast or lunch. Plus, a little pie for dessert. Yes, it is completely acceptable to have pie for breakfast.

Pipeline
Some of best waves in the world in the winter, but in the summer...flat.
Wiamea also gets some huge waves on the right swell in the winter, but in the summer it is best for gorgeous bay views, a waterfall hike or jumping off the large rock sitting on its shore. I have heard the Wiamea Falls hike is gorgeous, although I have never been (something for the future). The jumping rock is best at high tide, and no matter which way you enter the bay, it is one of my favorite views.
The Beaches
Lots of great beaches down the North coast. Great for snorkeling, turtle sightings and crystal clear water. They get crowded in the afternoon, so check them out in the late morning for some sun and then head into town for some lunch.
Haleiwa Town
Old town feel and plenty to do. Great place to buy souvenirs, get some lunch, check out some local art, and surf shops. It is really busy here in the summer, but worth the drive to check out.
