Happy Thanksgiving and a not so black Black Friday!

Hi Friends!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and and I hope you enjoyed your friends, family and a ton of amazing food! It is one of my favorite holidays, because the spirit of this holiday is one of the best. I hate that is shadowed by Christmas (don't get me wrong...I love Christmas), but the message of Thanksgiving and the food are just simply the best. Being thankful for this life. It is something I try to live every day, even though I am not successful at it every day.

Not so black Black Friday!

I am not a huge fan of Black Friday...as I love to enjoy Thanksgiving in full...with no shopping involved. Not to say I have not done it...but I have tried it, and it is just not for me. So rather than having a sale today,  I am just here to keep you posted on what is happening here at Mad Dream Design during the holidays!

Today!
No sale happening (unless you have subscribed to my newsletter...wink, wink). If you would like to get special discounts and be the first to know all the happs, then click subscribe! It is easy and I promise, it is only fun stuff, that comes a few times out of the year.
I will make it worth your while.

Heart Art Series

New Series: Heart Art

I have been working this idea in my head and yesterday morning it started to really take form. I really love promoting other artists, especially ones that inspire me, but rather than just promote them I want to get to know them and their thoughts behind their work...whether it be a small interview or just a look behind the scenes into their studio. This is what this series will be about. A deeper look in to a variety of different art forms we all love. The deeper meaning behind the idea and people seeing them out.

I am going to start this series off slow and start with Mad Dream Design and then start to move it toward others and maybe eventually have guest posts be apart of this series. I really want my blog to become a place to dream, create, inspire and be a great resource for art, artists, and design inspired by art. As an art history major, one of my favorite things hands down, was discovering the meanings behind every little detail in a painting or the "mad idea" behind a contemporary sculpture.

You can read more about me under the MAD. tab. Instead of talking about me, I am going to talk about my Spring 2013 Collection I just launched last week on Etsy. Check it out here!

Heart Art // Mad Dream Spring 2013 Collection
Tribe Vibes

My art has always been inspired by nature and animals. In painting class my best work was always a landscape painting - I should have known then. I guess you always just end up gravitating to what you are inspired most by in your work without much thought...this new idea I have is not usually that new because it is a concept of something I already saw in nature. My Spring 2013 Collection is no exception, which is why I have named it Tribe Vibes.

Tribe Vibes is all about getting back to our roots and the values that came with them. For example, birds were always a sign of good luck, the animal that lived between heaven and earth, a sacred creature that meant good things were coming when it crossed your path. The value of family and respect for animals and nature. The power of the ocean and energy of the sky. These are all things that spoke to me and this collection.

Next time, I will be looking at the inspiration and depth behind each piece in my collection.  Each piece offers something different and 5% of its proceeds goes to an animal or nature preservation non-profit organization. I will be sharing my experience with all of them and what they mean to me and Mad Dream.

I am excited for this series to take form and for the inspiration and new friends we find.

Enjoy!

Kelly Westover // Westover Manor
Dawnelle // Just Dawnelle
Casey // A Little Artsy

February 22nd, 2013

What I found myself channeling most this week was great women who have small businesses or are just simply inspiring. I am about to start up my Etsy shop in mid March, so I have been looking for the best of the best in the handmade business and in blogging for inspiration, motivation and adventure/risk taking. This is what I found:

Images c/o Moorea Seal (click for more info)

1. Moorea Seal // A few weeks ago I found Moorea Seal. Moorea blogs about inspirations, her jewelry, and is the creator of the 52 lists project, which I started to participate in a few weeks ago. You can see my lists here and here. She has an Etsy shop with amazing finds and her Pinterest is one of the most sought after, especially for jewelry...if you love Pinterest check her out!

Images c/o Design*Sponge (click for more info)

2. Design*Sponge // This post on Design*Sponge (who doesn't love this blog?), as a part of their Biz Ladies section (a great section to look through, btw), features Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. I am a huge fan of her work and merchandise, so I was excited to see her featured there! Check it out for a great design overload.

Image c/o Maiedae (click image for more info)

3. Maiedae // This design studio is run by Savannah and Jenny, and boy are they the cutest business partners ever! Just this week, Savannah had her last day at her day job. She got to quit her day job, people! Talk about a dream come true! :) Congratulations Savannah, read more on that here!

Image c/o Between Dreams (click image for more info)

4. Between Dreams // this blog is so fun to wonder around on, so yeah, it has the perfect name.  Allie has great photography and imagery, along with fun, inspirational posts that we all love to soak up.  This post features Jenni from The Story of My Life (another blog I love). This is a great read for following your dreams!

Images c/o of Influence Network and Anne Bogel (click image for more info)

5. Influence Network // This group of women are so inspirational, and they just launched their latest project, The Influence Network. You can join for a small fee to partake in their (from what I hear) amazing classes and forums, or like me, you can just follow along on their blog. This post by Anne Bogel on planning for inspiration is great! Anne talks about planning ahead and how that can spur inspiration, and I could not agree more. Some of the concepts she talks about here, I have started to implement into my own blog, just this year, and I love the results!

Enjoy and Happy Friday!

Valentine's Day Goodness

Hello Loves,

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope it is filled with lots of love from your family, your loved one, or your cat! ;)

Paco getting some love!
 Exciting News

I am so happy to announce that Jimi and I have booked our venue and have a lovely day set for our wedding. We are getting married one year from today, on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2014 (02.14.2014 -or- 2.14.14)! I am beyond excited and cannot wait to share our special day with all of our closest friends and family.

Valentine's Day Ideas for Everyone

I got this idea from Pinterest, and made it my own - all of our important dates in one pretty package. I think it is perfect for Valentine's Day, framed for a special someone. My Pinterest find was designed by Cindy of Inkstomp - check out her shop for some more great love prints!

Check out Sad Shop on Etsy for more!
With another Pinterest find, I started to think about Valentine's Day early this year and ordered my cards from Sad Shop on Etsy!! Katie's cards have great humor and are light hearted...but they still say I love you...which is what Valentine's Day is all about. I got one for all of my special someones, to send them a little note today.

Valentine's Day is not complete without Conversation Hearts, in my opinion! I love them, they are probably my favorite candy and thank goodness they are only around once a year (or else I would have a serious problem). I usually spend the first couple of days handing the ones I like to Jimi...to say I love you...I usually do this on Valentine's Day too. And then, of course, there is always chocolate...

I feel so lucky, because our garden is blooming roses...year round...so I always get to make a fun bouquet of roses (or two) at this time of year and place them around the house.  They smell amazing and they are so gorgeous with all of their different colors. Plus, they always remind me to love.

What are the fun things you are doing for Valentine's Day to say I love you? How do you celebrate?

xo,

My Jewelry Designs

Original Handmade Jewelry by Maddie Dierkes
I am featuring some of my signature jewelry designs on here today, as I am in the beginning stages of setting up my design business that includes my jewelry design and my graphic design.  I am hoping by the end of the year I will have some jewelry workshop set up, and I will be able to sell my designs on Etsy! This is hard to focus on at times, since I already work full time as an in-house graphic designer for Aspen Medical Products and part time as a design consultant for another local business. All my graphic design, jewelry design and consulting will be under one business created by myself.  I will keep you posted here and eventually my blog will move to my website where you will be able to learn more!
