Influence, Vision and Beauty

Both of the these videos are done by Karen Walrond of wildly convinced that you are uncommonly beautiful and the author of the bestseller The Beauty of Different.

The mission is to change the perception of beauty and accept the fact that we are beautiful in our differences and that the only way to change the world's perception and definition of beauty is finding the beauty within ourselves and in our differences.

She has found her calling and how she can contribute to the gift of life through the spirit she was given by showing you how to love yourself.  It is inspirational and amazing.  We are all here for a reason, we all wish to influence some or many people, but the question is how?

This comes to a book I am reading by Jessi Connolly Be Quiet & Say Something.  She talks about how we need to look past ourselves and our own lives to see the greater picture, to see the bigger plan that is dealt to us.  The plan that gives us purpose and that allows us to share our gifts and spirit with the rest of the world...to make the world a better place, a beautiful place.  Her vision is equally inspirational and amazing.

I have not finished her book and I have not read Karen's book, but I can tell you right now, that these are the kind of women I want to read with, learn from and maybe someday actually be living proof of their influence.

I too want to influence, maybe in a smaller way, to capture the attention of the few and make this world a better place.  I have an idea of what, but I am not sure of the when, the who and the how.  I am for sure still learning, and have so much work to do...but I at least hope I am on the right track.

That is what influence does.  It gives you hope for something better, something bigger, and something beautiful.  We all have it, we can all find it, and we all get to contribute, but we all get to do it in our own beautiful way if we allow ourselves to go out and get it.

Eddie Vedder, Ukulele Songs

I am in love with the softer side of Eddie Vedder.

His newest solo album Ukulele Songs that was released in May of 2011 is full of unique tracks that are a treasure to find.  He lets you escape to a place where you can literally feel his soul.  He brings a melancholy vibe to usually upbeat instrument and creates a wonderfully juxtaposition between his somewhat sad lyrics and the lovely twang of the ukulele.  Furthermore, this album is a beautiful showcase of the depth and volume of his voice.  There is nothing flat in this album, each song has as much depth and feeling as anything a full band could produce with a handful of instrumentals and vocals.

Don't expect a stripped down version of Pearl Jam, but rather Eddie Vedder stripped down to his soul, something you can only get from a solo album.  Expect bittersweet.

Bittersweet is a feeling I have been in love with and obsessed with for a very longtime.  Whether it is beautifully painful, pleasant with twinge of sadness, or creates so much loving feeling that the thought of ever loosing it brings you the deepest sadness, they all bring up the deepest emotions.  And for this reason, bittersweet gets me every time.

Check out his album on Amazon and enjoy!!!

Staycation

For the first post of year I am confessing my new obsession with Sunset magazine...

www.sunset.com

First of all they are all about living here in the west which is great because we do love living here, right???

They have everything from traveling to Utah for a canyoning excursion to exploring the apple orchards of Oak Glen, California...day trip anyone???

Then comes the design stuff..need I say more. Things like gardening, creating the perfect outdoor space as your escape from the world to making your house a home inside out.

Lastly comes the food. Some good stuff for any occasion that definitely makes me hungry.

For a closing thought...they are all about local beauty...where you live in the most beautiful place in the world you just have to get out there and find it (they give you all the info you need you just have to go do it) and it might just be your own backyard. Even though it is a little late considering it is already February! but here is to a new year of celebrating where you live and supporting local sellers, artists, and cities. And to being at home and loving it... with a few vacations here and there to places you have been dying to go to forever even though they may just be a weekend trip away.

Happy New Year and have fun being home!

Everyone loves good, fun design!

From Design*Sponge - Sneak Peaks section

Who wouldn't want to work at his work station in the home of Shay Ometz of Fossil

This sun room in Kelly Moseley's home looks warm and inviting to cozy up in on a warm afternoon.

A big art statement is always great especially when done right like in the living room of Kate and Ryan White of Fossil.

A shower before and after the pool is always a rejuvenating thing especially in this shower in Jill Crawford's home.

A hall of mirrors with crisp white frames like in the office's Jill Roberson's home ...delic!
